Why clean in spring? Dust and pollen in the air cause a big mess and most of us probably haven't done much work on the outside of our homes so far this year due to weather. Proper cleaning is important to the overall care and maintenance of any home. Deferred cleaning can cause paint, wood, roof shingles, carpet and other items to wear out faster.
Easy spring home maintenance tips!
Exterior of the home
Start by getting debris off your roof and gutters.
Go around the eve of the house and knock off dust, dirt, and potentially wasp nests starting to form
Spray down extremely dirty areas with a water hose.
Clean the window frames and windows
Cut back bushes and plants near air conditioning unit.
Interior of the home
Dust the home everywhere including areas you don’t often dust like the tops of door and window frames.
Give the bathrooms a fresh deep clean. It’s a good time to focus on the shower areas that may have collected a lot of dirt and grime.
Replace the HVAC air filter.
Clean the air vents. Keeping these clean will improve your air quality and prevent mold in air vents.
Put some drain maintainer down your air conditioning water drain line. This line can get clogged over time without proper maintenance. Clogging can cause water to drain in unwanted areas and damage homes.
Inspect windows, screens, doors, weatherstripping, and trim. Over time window sealants and weatherstripping may deteriorate. Insect and mosquito activity will begin to pick up in the spring and it’s a good time to make sure everything is sealed up well.
Test smoke alarms and CO2 monitors. make certain all smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
